Our Program
Our program…prepares boys to be capable, caring and contributing young men in their homes and communities. We do this by providing a setting that is conducive for learning and personal growth. We focus on the emotional, intellectual, social, physical, and spiritual well-being of each resident through education, treatment and experiential learning.
Emotional Well being… our counseling programs are administered by licensed professionals and qualified staff. We provide therapeutic intervention in the following three forms: Group, Individual and Family. Our milieu includes the Why Try Model www.whytry.org, a program that was originally developed as a one-on-one counseling tool. The WhyTry visual analogies provide a practical guide for discussing personal challenges and solutions to problems that youth face at home, at school, and with their peers.
The program utilizes a strength based approach to counseling and is infused with empirically sound theories and techniques including:
- Reality Therapy
- Solution Focused Brief Therapy
- Multiple Intelligence Theory
The program is also used nationally by clinical social workers, psychologists, and other mental health clinicians in both group and one-on-one settings.
Intellectual Growth… we provide a nationally accredited curriculum and social/behavioral instruction to all of our residents . In addition to our academic offering, we provide a vocation education program that may be used for certification or education credits. Our program includes trades or jobs that over 80% of all high school and college residents choose as their first job.
- Culinary Arts (knowledge of knife skills, cooking preparation, menu selection, food handler’s permit, and all line cook positions).
- Computer technology (Hardware-software certifications, Microsoft suite applications and web page design).
- Construction Trades (Carpentry, welding, basic electrical, plumbing, and landscaping)
Social Maturity our program provides social situations and environments that teach new behaviors, responsibilities and awareness. We provide Fine Arts programs to expand additional learning environments for exploring creativity and relationship building.
- Music (weekly classes offering music theory and practicum. Our clinical director, Reynie Sandoval is an accomplished musician, and wrote and produced music for the WhyTry Program and his private label CD.
- Art (weekly culinary instruction and skills implementation).
